Taizé Prayer

Home Contact Us Site Map Parish Plan Web Mail

Taizé Prayer emerged from an ecumenical community of monks in Taizé, France. Brother Roger, Taizé’s founder, arrived in the village of Taizé in 1940. In the midst of World War II, he dreamed of creating a community where reconciliation was a daily reality. Brother Roger recognized that the search for reconciliation was within each individual as well as within the community.

At Sacred Heart Cathedral, Taizé prayer consists of song, scripture, and quiet meditation. The lighting in the Cathedral is dimmed; a large wooden cross is placed at the base of the altar surrounded by candles.  Taizé is an opportunity for all gathered to prepare for the Easter Season.

It is in the spirit of Taizé
and through a blend of ritual, reverence
and simplicity...
In the midst of community...
Presented within the sacredness of the Cathedral...
This deep, prayerful experience allows all gathered
the opportunity to prepare for Easter.

It is in this quiet spirit of Taizé
that we gather at 7:00pm
in the Cathedral on Mondays...
during Lent.
