"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice,
they will be filled."
The Social
Justice Ministry of Sacred Heart Cathedral is called to engage the
parish community in works of social justice and charity, in
accordance with the Gospel message and Catholic social teaching
through awareness, education and action which
includes solidarity with and direct service to the poor.
The
specific ministries of social justice include the following: Catholic Parish Outreach, Door Ministry, Farm Worker
Meals, Gabriel Project, Global Outreach/ Fair Trade/ Haiti Project,
Habitat for Humanity, Helen Wright Center, Moore Square Ministry,
Prison Ministry, Share Tree, Support Circles, Wake Interfaith
Hospitality Network (WIHN), and advocacy through Congregations for
Social Justice. To speak further about joining these efforts or to
bring a new social justice ministry to Sacred Heart, contact Barbara
Quinby at
socialconcern@sacredheartcathedral.org.
As part of
our commitment to ongoing adult continuing education, Sacred Heart
Social Justice Ministry office offers the Justice Bulletin Board and leads the Thursday night Book Study
Group. Please read the bulletin for
current programming. We are also looking to form another JustFaith
small community study group in the fall of 2012. Again, please
contact,
socialconcern@sacredheartcathedral.org.
In addition to these ministries and studies in the parish community,
the Social Justice Committee meets to examine issues of justice,
peace and charity that affect our parish, our community, our nation
and our world, and to consider how we can respond to them as a
Catholic community of faith. Any parish member is welcome to attend.
The meetings are held in St. Monica's Center on the fourth Thursday
of every other month from 7:00PM - 9:00PM.
