I was hungry and you fed me
--Jesus
Catholic Parish Outreach (CPO) operates a
food pantry to serve needy families and individuals in our
community. Volunteers assist with greeting and interviewing
clients, packing food bags, and sorting and distributing
children's clothing. At Cathedral, contributions are collected
on Share Sunday, the first Sunday of every month. A semi- annual
food drive and annual baby shower are also held to support CPO.
Volunteers are needed to work one day a month (Mon.-Sat.
9:30-1:30) at the center located at 2013 Raleigh Blvd. If you
would be interested in volunteering, contact Jenny O'Brien at
jennyob53@yahoo.com.
A Brief History of CPO
CPO food pantry started in 1977 when friends
from different Catholic churches decided it was time to help the
local community. It grew from a few friends with a small
bookcase of canned goods into a vibrant community of over 3,000
volunteers and donors. CPO is now one of the largest food
pantries in North Carolina and a program of Catholic Charities.
CPO serves the working poor, elderly, sick, disabled, and those
who have just hit a rough patch. They serve all who need food
assistance, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, or beliefs.
They work on a referral system with recommendations given by
social workers, churches, medical providers, and school
counselors for people living in Wake, Johnston, or Franklin
Counties. Their clients are eligible to receive approximately
one week's worth of food once every 30 days.
